I think the clematis is "the president" and exactly the same happened to mine. The leaves went black then the whole thing wilted when it was in flower. At the time I thought it was wilt and cut it to the ground. I however believe it may have been either slugs damaged the stems at base level or the window cleaner damaged it climbing over the fence as when I cut it down the stems at the base had their bark stripped away.

Mine has since recovered however I am sure other people will give better advice.

They look as if they have either been slightly frosted or they have had too much hot sunshine - either way a bit burned. Should recover by growing new leaves.image

Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.

Oh dear image ok thank you, its not in full sun, part shade, says its hardy to frost, fingers crossed it will be ok and bloom away, just want it to start climbing, the pink one has never grown, it has flowers but its rather small.

  • Why not ask the experts at Aldi ?

They tend not grow much in the first year but will start to put on growth in the second year.

I have one the same that's perfectly happy, let's be honest, it's flowering so it isn't dead, thus we can conclude it's happy image

I would go with Pansyface, they are mass produced and mass watered with no regards for their delicate nature, then shoved on the back of a lorry for how long? Who knows

As already offered, it should recover even if it suddenly gets suicidal this year, clematis are pretty resilient but be patient,  sometimes can take a year

Thanks guys, theres buds half opened been like that for weeks, i took a closer look yesterday and the flowers look like they are half dead, all dried up and not nice looking? Someone told me to nip the flowers off, is that right?
