Lawnmower Engine Problem

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with my lawnmower problem.

I have a 6 year old Mountfield HP 470 petrol mower, with a Briggs & Stratton engine.

It is failing to start and is now incredibly hard to turn the engine over using the pull cord.

The problem started last week when the engine kept cutting out despite bring full of fuel. It has worked ok several times since being used this season.

I cleaned the spark plug, filter, and replaced the oil, and put fresh fuel in.

The stop / start cable is operating ok, and thr underneath is clean.

As I say it is now incredibly hard to operate the pull cord as the engine seems resistant to turning over.

I would be grateful for any advice or support offered

Regards

Darren

Sounds like it could be seized, possibly broke a piston ring. Obviously I cant be sure. You could try removing the spark plug - it should be easy to turn the engine over with the pull cord or try rotating the blade with your hands be careful. If it still impossible to turn the engine over it probably finished.
