Two plants id please

SammymummySammymummy Posts: 198

Hi everyone and sorry that I'm asking again for plant id. I saw the first one (pic 1 & 2) in the St James's Square, central London last week and the second one (pic 3 & 4) in a woodland garden yesterday. I'd appreciate your help to identify them. Many thanks!

The second is a petasites, possibly californicum or similar name suggesting Californian origin.

I don't know the first plant at all

Not sure about Petasites, looks a bit like Damera peltata to me.  The first plant looks like a Protea type shrub, these are mostly South African and flowers can be very attractive, but there are a lot of them so other than that I have no idea.

2nd one looks very similar to my Darmera, which is also flowering now.

The leaves often emerge some time after the flowers.

You will notice the leaves when they appear- they are very large! Not as big as Gunnera, but still quite impressive.

Thank you all for the answers.  I've googled Leucadendron salignum and Darmera peltata (known as umbrella plant) image.

Have a good day in the garden (I am stuck in the office image)
