I bought quite a young Japanese maple last year planted it in a pot ......over winter a placed the pot in a well sheltered place in my garden .....come spring I bought it out gave it some water and there are still no leaves coming on it ........ I've bent the branches and they are bendy I've scratched the bark and it's green ....? Is it dying is it dead ......? Why are there no leaves coming on it ......?

I'm also having this problem. My mother in law brought one at the same timein Jan and both were dormant. Mine still has'nt shown any sign of life but my mothers now has leaves. Is there anything i can do?.
I had an acer that was nearly dead too. Produced hardly any leaves last year and some branches died off. This year, I repotted it into a self-watering pot with good ericaceous compost, added ericaceous granular fertiliser, kept it in the house for a month then put it in the greenhouse for a few weeks. I only gave it rainwater as our water is hard. It looks absolutely fab at the moment. Fuller than it's ever been and growing away strongly. Don't give up, if it's still green under the bark, repot it and give it some extra special care until the buds break through.
