New Turf problems

hi, I've just laid a new lawn about 5 weeks ago, it's getting on okay but I've cut it this evening after letting it get about 6" long, its now about 2" long and I'm worried I've been a bit savage, should I feed it with something to stop it loosing its colour And thinning out?
