I'm hopeful, but none have arrived yet ....

  • Me neither, I'm wondering when I should give up and buy some!

I've already got some, but not 'giant' types - if my huge ones arrive it will necessitate a slight alteration in the planting plans in the veg patch - but I'm flexible image

  • I asked for the slightly smaller ones, I haven't grown them since my first year in the garden so I thought it might be fun.

Fun in the garden is always good image

Steve, while you're here can I ask, my daughter (Wonky Womble) is caring for a stray cat with a nasty cut on his face (see Hello Forkers).  Apart from bathing with boiled salt water is there anything else she should be doing (given very limited funds).  Understood that you can only give general, not specific advice.  Cheers image

  • If the cut isn't horrible and pus filled, or if it is and it is draining well then good old fashioned teaspoon of salt to a pint of cooled boiled water used to clean a few times a day will definitely help. As a stray cat, if it looks infected then she could try contacting her local Cats Protection or RSPCA welfare officer (her vet should be able to point her the right way) then they may be able to help if some anti-biotics are needed. Most stray cats are fighters so these wounds usually aren't stitched due to contamination and infection.

Thanks Steve - that's kind of you image  From the photo the cut looks clean (so far).  I think stray cat (aka Flatface) probably had/has 'owners' locally but he chooses to spend his time in Wonky's garden (watching the birds that she feeds) and playing with her cat when Wonky takes her out into the garden.  She's already wormed and de-flead him so that he can associate with Harrie(t) image  I'll make sure she's aware of your info re Cats Protection/RSPCA - again, many thanks image
