what are these insects?

image

Hi,

I'm brand new here so any help appreciated...I have had a Meyer Lemon Tree for 2 years now and has suddenly gone down hill... yellowing leaves etc.. I inspected it closely today and found a lot of these white insects on the undersides of the leaves... they seem to be more like insect casings rather than insects themselves (?). I'm a total novice really and need some help...I'm guessing the yellow leaves are a separate issue to the insects though...

p.s. I live in New Zealand if that makes a difference!

Thanks!

Hello Tamsin image I think they are some sort of  aphid casings- aphids suck sap from the leaves so would make the leaves look unhealthy image

  • looks like dead cockchafers gone white or woolly aphids.mystery!

  • If the lemon tree isn't too big i would clean every leaf with a damp cloth to get rid of them .I do,nt like using chemicals.Iwould put some fertiliser in the soil as it sounds like it,s lacking some nutrients and give it a good drink

  • Thanks for the advice:- am going to get it some fertiliser today and try and get all the bugs off and hope it perks up!
