It's all bit difficult without seeing the tree and knowing what type of cherry tree it is. Is it an ornamental one or a fruiting one? If it's a fruiting one is it a sweet cherry or an acid, cooking one?
Could you put a photo on here to let us see how old it is, how bald it is, how bushy it is etc?

I never prune my eating cherry trees.
Thanks.
It is a sweet eating Cherry, about 12 years old.
Unless any branches are crossing over the centre of the tree and rubbing on other branches I'd leave it alone
Thanks to you all for the advise.
