Hi can anyone tell me what the black stuff is on the leaves of plants it started about 2yrs ago I have a peris, rodedendrum and camilia there not in a very sunny place I have tried to wash it off and scrape it off with finger nail which it did come off not to well. I thought it was off the traffic, my garden is by a road but my other plants don't have it any answers please. Thanks Elaine

If you have any trees overhanging the affected evergreens, it may be black mould which forms on the sugary honeydew which aphids feeding on the tree leaves last summer dropped.  If so, all you can do it try and wash it off.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • Thank you it's hard to get off shall I use soapy water will that do the trick.thanks elaine
