I have potted up some carnations and put them in my greenhouse over winter, do i need to water them now and then our can i leave them till spring ie march time
As far as I am aware John, Carnations are hardy. I kept mine outside last winter and they came to no harm. I wouldn't let them dry out in the greenhouse but I would be wary of overwatering anything in the winter season. Good luck with them.
thanks i always thought carnations were not hardy will have to check
There are garden and greenhouse varieties of carnation so it depends which you have http://www.allwoods.net/category_s/55.htm
thanks dove but it says on the seed packet that they are half hardy they are loverly thats why i thought i would keep over winter in greenhouse
If they're half-hardy then keep them in the greenhouse and protect from frost - keep the soil dry-ish.
Thanks dove will do have a merry xmas
And a Merry Christmas to you too
