As far as I am aware John, Carnations are hardy. I kept mine outside last winter and they came to no harm. I wouldn't let them dry out in the greenhouse but I would be wary of overwatering anything in the winter season. Good luck with them.

  • thanks i always thought carnations were not hardy will have to check image

  • There are garden and greenhouse varieties of carnation so it depends which you have http://www.allwoods.net/category_s/55.htm image

  • thanks dove but it says on the seed packet that they are half hardy  they are loverly thats why i thought i would keep over winter in greenhouse image

  • If they're half-hardy then keep them in the greenhouse and protect from frost - keep the soil dry-ish.
