  • My husband and I have a beautiful Prunus Subhirtella Autumnalis in our garden and I have very fond memories of my late father and I planting it a number of years ago. We are planning to move house later this year and I would like to know if it is possible to take a cutting.

    Thank you
  • I am looking for a deciduous tree for a very large pot on my patio. I recall seeing some maples (?) in the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin which were a very bright green and would be perfect, but I have not been able to find out what there are. Any ideas please?
  • of this list, only the Amelanchier would amke my top five. What about Acer Griseum (the paerbark maple), Aralia Elata, Cornus contoversa 'variegata', any small birch, or the most gorgeous small tree I can think of (though notoriously expensive to buy) Schefflera Macrophylla.
For a large pot, I think Tetrapanax Papyrifera 'Rex' would look fantastic. This is not a tree, rather a big leggy shrub with monsterous 'prehistoric' looking leaves. Slightly hard to come by, but one of my favourite plants, and I know it would look incredible in big pot.
  • Ha...a button down collar - have you no understanding of gravity?

Can I add Cornelian cherry, bladdernut, Chaenomelese quince and Japanese plum..I think I can

Not just a button down collar but a very old photograph.

You can't go adding things to a Top Five list, otherwise it would be a top nine list.
Go away and make your own...
  • I have just bought a prunus subhirtella autumnallis, and have seen varying reports on how wide it will spread. I was hoping to plant it along one side of the garden beside a 6ft high fence. Any tips on how far out from the fence i should plant it and eventual spread?
    Thanks
  • Best plant it at least a couple of feet away from the fence in case you need to replace the fence. Eventual spread of about 3m.
    Enjoy.
  • While walking around the Lakes at Needham Market I came across some trees with fantastic red leaves and the prettiest little flowers, when closed they looked like little red pods, we took a piece and put it in water and overnight the pods opened to show a yellow seed like middle. can anyone tell me the name of this tree and is it suitable for a house garden?
