Will a Lavatera work in partial shade?

Hi all, I have a gap in a north west facing border, backed by a 5 foot fence.. so the ground level is in shade most on the day until late afternoon, but the top of fence is in sun most of day. I'm looking for a fast growing shrub, preferably which flowers in summer. I saw a Lavatera 'Barnsley' which would look lovely there, however it says it needs 'full sun'. Any ideas if it would work in the area I want it to? Is it likely to go leggy? or not flower? Otherwise, any other ideas for the spot? image

My Lavatera is in a similar situation and flowers beautifully.  I cut it back to about a foot high every year and by the end of the summer it's about 6ft tall.
