Grass seed and field mice

I have just sown grass seed and as soon as I had turned my back there was a field mouse at the seed.  Can I do anything to stop them demolishing all my hard work ????

    I sieve some seed compost over the seeds. It seems to cut down on the number that get eaten, simply by making them less visible. image

    Thanks I have just been out and put down compost but they seem to like that too !!!!
