Gabions planter lining.

Hi all, I'm toying with the idea of making raised flower beds using gabions. I intent to line the gabions with something that will prevent weeds etc from growing up from underneath, but that will also allow me to plant into the side wall of the gabion. Does anyone have suggestions for what lining material would best enable me to do this? I was thinking I need something that is porous and won't rot quickly, but I've no idea what.

    I'm considering the liner because I dont intent to fill the gabions with stone, I'm going to fill them with soil and try to get flowers to grow from the side wall along the entire length, like when you slice holes in the side of a hanging basket. I was actually thinking that I could use similar similar to hanging basket lininers to line the gabions, but I don't know what it's called?
