Bargain Plants

I went to my local Home Bargains store this morning and on a trolley outside the shop was lots of Polyanthus, 4 plants to a pot. All of them looking very wilted and dying and being offered for 10p a pot so I bought 10 pots of them. They are now sitting in the garden still in their pots but they have been well watered. By the afternoon they are looking a lot healthier. I am so glad I rescued them as I am sure they would have been thrown away. Just can not bear to see plants destroyed when they only need a drop of water. I know, I'm, just a bit of a softy. image

I do that too. If it doesn't flower again this year, it will next year.

One of the most satisfying bits of enjoyment for me, 'rescuing' what appears to be dead, breathing life back into them, then appreciating the lovely plants for pennies!!!

All the Polyanthus are standing up proud this morning and with plenty of flowers. Yes, I will divide them Verdun when flowering is over, thank you for your advise, it is always welcome. Thank you everyone for your replies.image

We???ve blagged MoneySavers a pink Daphne 'Perfume Princess' shrub for ??10 delivered if you go via this Thompson & Morgan* link and enter the code TAF213YZ at the checkout (it should be filled in for you). Hey paul, a few years back T+M offered a tree peony at a couple of quid after I had bought 50 quid or something.. so I obliged.. on receiving the order I found I actually had two what with the roots all wrapped around.. I planted, 3 years later both thriving, and now near 16 inches across and 5-7 buds, and the flowers are fantastic, they don't blow away like normal peonies, much tougher, next year should be double figures!!! I found excellent stuff in poundland the other day, can't wait for the result tbh.. once I've beefed them up with a good year of food, (considering removing flowering buds this year,) next year will be easily 15-20 quid in b+Q lol..

  • I went to a pound shop a week ago and found a red rose called Rosa for ??1. I soaked it and potted it up, its just showing signs of growth. There are some great buys out there if you look round.
