Newbie, repairing first lawn

Hi guys,Firstly, apologies if this has been posted in the wrong section. I've just moved into my first home and I'm clueless as far as gardening goes!

The lawn is full of weeds/bare patches and generally looking very worn. Would anyone be kind enough as to tell me what steps I should take to get this lawn looking nice again.

Thanks in advance

I'm not a lawn expert but it looks as though you need to do a bit of reseeding. This should bump your question to the top of the pile then maybe someone with perfect turf will see it and come to your aid.

I'd scarify it first in two directions at 90 degree angles, then reseed. You should be quite generous with seed, then water it in. Keep off it and make sure you water it every day. You should see relatively quick germination, a week to 10 days. Let the new grass get to 4 inches before giving it a light cut on the highest setting of your mower. It looks to be slightly shady, so pick a grass seed specifically for shade. As the year progresses don't be tempted to close cut, the longer you leave it in the first year, the stronger it will be next year.

  • That's great guys, thanks for your help image
