Bowles Mauve Cutting

I am having my second go at getting some cuttings from my Bowles Mauve plants.  I tried in the summer last year - plastic bag method but nothing happened.  This time I have taken some heel cuttings and placed them in a recently purchased heated propagator.  I don't know what temperature they like - how long should I wait before they take.  Can I see on the surface whether they have taken or do I only know when I tug a little and there is some resistance.  Many thanks

I do exactly as Verdun, minus the poly bag though.

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

  • ive found they respond quite well to a really hard cut back, I appreciate that this isn't the recommended method of rejuvinating the plant. This year I'll be taking a load of cuttings and not giving them all away this time!
