Allium bulbs

Whilst weeding the borders over, I noticed that one of the alliums had failed to sprout. Upon digging it up, it was clear that it had gone soft and rotten. The bulb however was surrounded by lots of little mini bulbs about 3/4 of a cm across. Will these be ok if potted up?

I would just leave them in the ground, you wont get flowers this year but they will grow some green leaves and that will feed the bulbs for next year.

Of course, you can pot them up if you want, but then you have to look after them, watering etc, they take care of themselves in the garden.

  • Dug them out mainly as I wasn't sure what had done the big bulbs in. Given them a rinse off and ill pot them up in little coir pots of compost and Bury them back in the garden.

Try just putting a layer of sand in the gound and lay them on that, you want them fairly deep a good 4/5 inches as when they grow they can fall over if shallow planted.
