new trees?

I have just bought two japanese cherries and several shrubs, when is the latest I can plant them as we are having a new fence and I dont want them damaged so need to wait.

    If they are in pots you can plant anytime, if bare roots, pot them up until you are ready. They will need watering well in pots though.

    An alternative to pots (if they are bare root) would be to plant them in a bit of the border or garden to be dug up and moved at a later date.  If it's only a few weeks time, you'll be fine.  Alternatively, you can plant them elsewhere and move them at the appropriate time of year later, if the fence building isn't for some time to come.
