Trumpet Vine / Campsis radicans - is it dead?

Would anyone be able to tell me when a trumpet vine should start new growth in Spring?
It's March 8th and there's absolutely no sign.
I mistakenly pruned it at the wrong time - after flowering had finished in early December. Have I killed it?
It's in a large planter against a SouthWest facing wall. The trunk is the thickness of a permanent marker and about a metre long, and its top layer of 'skin' seems to be peeling. The branches, when cut, still appeared a little bit green inside but now look dried and dead.

they do sometimes ( depending on location / severity of winter,) "die" right down to the ground. Give it time: it's only the first week in March after all.

Aha - I needn't have worried - it's started sprouting new shoots from around the cut-offs!

I looked at mine the other day but still no sign of anything happening - I'm not going out there to look now - it's tipping down image
