anybody know how and when to propagate bedding plants. I'm always fascinated
when I see the small plugs in the garden centres early spring.
seeds mostly, buy a pack of marigolds and have a go. instructions are on the packet.
Do you mean sowing seeds? Some need it warmer than others. Have a look at the packets and see what they say. I'll be starting some in March, some in electric heated propagators and some in seed trays with clear plastic lids on windowsills. I use general purpose compost to sow into. Some, like petunias and nicotianas have tiny weeny seeds that you don't need to cover, others, like French marigolds and bedding dahlias have much bigger seeds that you sprinkle a bit of compost over. When the seeds come up and start their first proper leaves you ease them out into little pots of fresh compost.
