Unknown growth

There appears to be some sort of orange growth on the soil with my seedling peppers and chilli's but I don't know what it is? Is it harmful?

I do have a photo but don't know how to upload it. It's fresh John Innes seed compost.

Scoop it out and hope for the best.  Could be something harmless growing on a bit of wood in the compost.    Something like this?
