Started on the veg sowing!

well this morning I have sown some veg seeds, tomatoes, cauliflower, butternut squash and hot peppers. All are now hopefully starting to germinate on my window sill under a propagator image Looking forward to the result and can't wait to pop the butternut and cauliflower into the ground when strong enough image

  • A little early for me in the east mids yet the problem being where do you put the plants until it's safe to put them out?

  • I got my propergator out so getting ready. Tomatoes first as these going in the green house and we live on the south coast. Maybe chillies as well. Issue for me is we are going on holiday for 2 weeks at Easter.

  • Had a great new heated propergator for birthday so started Tom's off , usual problem all taken, so far too many but can't bring myself to discard them hey ho . I think I must have been to eager with the cucumber planted Unwins f1 Long Crop ,4seeds in the packet but only one has germinated and that doesn't look too good.Expensive mistake .image

I dont start  squash until early May, and plant out late may when all the frosts have gone.

Well done Jazdean, you've been busy! Whereabouts in the country are you? I'm dying to plant some cherry tomato seeds soon.

  • I started this weekend, just toms for greenhouse, chilli's and sweet red peppers, leeks too.

I also set a few penstemon, antirrhinum and delphinium.

  • I may be a tad premature but everything is inside at the moment. I have a large plastic walk in greenhouse to build, so once the plants are Strong enough, I'll pop them in there.

I live in Stalybridge, 10miles from Manchester! So should be interesting image

I started off my cauliflowers in January, I would love a greenhouse but it will have to wait. I'm just using windowsills and planning to build a big cold frame to get them outside soon. I prick them out and put them in pots that fit in the multi-trays you can get with the felt and tray at the bottom. They balance OK on my windowsills. Sowed aubergine, tomatoes, peppers, cabbage and brussel sprouts this weekend for the propagator. image

For me it's a sanity thing, getting stuff going early this year got me through the winter without the usual blues I get. image

  • Sounds like you're well organised this year Gemma! Good for you! It does feel good to get seeds sown! My cosmos, sunflowers, pinks and dahlias are all showing life on my windowsill! Come end of March, should be looking strong hopefully image
