how old are hawthorn trees when they begin to flower??

Hi all,

I've got a couple of hawthorn which I can only assume came from bird dropping s. Anyway they're now about 5ft but haven't flowered. I've left them alone and not pruned them.  Just wondering how long before they begin to flower, as they may need to be removed owing to the construction of a retaining wall tho one could be spared.

Thanks for any advice

I would have said, in the wild, that it would have begun to flower by now. However, it is probably in much better soil than it would be in as a wild specimen. Better soil means delayed flowering (no need to reproduce, I'm very happy thank you).image

Apophthegm -  a big word for a small thought.
If you live in Derbyshire, as I do.
  • Thanks for info, I might keep one and hope it flowers in the next year or two. I quite like hawthorn but too boring if it won't flower. Really only keeping it for wildlife value
