Thank you all for sharing your wisdom and experience - very helpful. I'll give plugs a miss and wait for something better.

Never bought from Parkes but I  have bought plugs from Wyevale Garden Centre. Put my order in this year about 6 weeks ago and WGC are growing the chaps for me until end of March. I don't pay until I go to the GC to pick them up. It something that is done across the group and so far never had a complaint. This year I will be bringing them back to put into my new greenhouse. GH gets delivered on 20 March think I more excited about that than plants...and that takes alot!

Have also bought from Hayloft very good quality and other smaller specialist on line providers.

I've bought about 15 from Wyvale, they are good sturdy plants, I've potted them into 9cm pots and they are sitting on my conservatory windowsill.  I'll wait a couple of weeks and then start putting them outside in the day and bringing them in at night and eventually they will go into my cold greenhouse until they can be put outside.  I did this last year and all of them survived into good plants.

I wouldn't buy large amounts because they do take a bit of extra nurturing nor would I buy job lots on the internet.  I have selected a few more from Plant Me Now which wont be delivered until April when I will be able to grow them on ready to go into the garden in May.

I don't have the room to grow all my own seeds as my greenhouse is very small. I think you just have to be selective and not get carried away.
