Potatos

Has anybody grown Winston potatoes we have bought a bag from a super market and the flavor when cooked is very sweet,I would like to hear other peoples comments on the flavor,by the way we cooked them in the microwave and mashed them,they took over ten minutes to boil which seems a long time in a microwave,we did not like them at all.

    If potatoes  are exposed to frost, this can turn the starch to sugars and make them taste sweet . It may be nothing to do with the variety, could be just a faulty batch.

    Yes, we grew Winston. They were good, as new potatoes, but they ended up huge and they were all horribly rotted in the centre and had to be thrown away.



    We took a sample to RHS but the verdict on the cause of the rot didn't seem to fit the circumstances. So it is a mystery.
