Climbing Rose
Hi,
I have a climbing rose that is now about 15' high up against south facing wall. I have 3 good size 'stems' and then it branches out to about 20 feet.
The trouble is i have no growth below the 15'. I am hesitant to cut of even one of the main stems but is this the only way i will promote a new stem to grow?
Im guessing the reason why i have no growth in the first 15 feet is that there was a honeysuckle there which i cut back hard last year as it was a tangled mess.
Ill try and upload a photo in a bit

This should give you the information about what to do and the confidence to do it http://paulzimmermanroses.com/care/pruning/rejuvenating-an-old-climbing-rose/

I would also suggest making sure it gets a good feed of well rotted garden compost and/or manure and a dollop of bllod, fish and bone or pelleted chicken manure every spring and occasional liquid feeds of rose or tomato food from March to June. Roses are very hungry plants.

Great video thanks. Roll on March and down it comes!
