We had a paraffin heater on the landing when I was a kid, just thinking of that smell brought back floods of memories RB, ice on the inside of windows in the morning being one of them!

  • Oh how I remember the outside loo and the potty under the bed and the smelly pararfin heaters.  Once it was so cold my cousin's hot water bottle froze in his bed.  Although things were not so luxurious as today, we had such fun and it was lovely to see family members we had not seen for a while and play silly games that we could join in as children and not be sitting in the corner playing computer games etc.  I too would like to hibernate for the whole of winter, but once Christmas is over the nights start to get lighter and there is the promise of Spring !!  I was born in February, perhaps that is why I too dislike Winter !!   Hope all of you who suffer from Winter Blues are able to stay cheerful until the Spring.

  • We had one of those little brass candle powered things  when we were children, Edd.

My MIL has one of the wonderful German wooden ones - if you google German Christmas Pyramids you'll see some amazing examples. image

  • That's exactly like the one we had Edd - I remember Ma buying it from Footman & Pretty's department store in Ipswich - I wonder where it is now - I don't remember coming across it when we cleared the house ... I expect it's been discarded image

I'd love one of those big wooden ones image
