Ground was frozen here in the NW this morning and no shiny thing in the sky all day just dark cloud and light rain.

Fur lined wellies may be the way forward Alan. If you don't like the tights look you could go for pop socks under the inadequate socks

You need wool socks, they will keep your little tootsies warm and toasty.
