Daffodil varieties for St David's Day

I want to plant some Daffs in our new garden and as my wife is Welsh, would like to make sure that there are some up and out for the 1st of March. In my experience most full size daffs are a little later than that here in south suburban London.

I've searched a bit for early varieties, but they all claim a Jan to Feb flowering time, so they could have been and gone by the critical day.

Surely some old Victorian salt bred a variety called something like "St David's old reliable" that flowers from Feb through March?

All suggestions welcome, and I'm happy to plant a few varieties to give me the best chance, cold or warm spring.

Hi, there are some varieties which produce more than one flower and so give you a longer flowering period - I would recommend Tete a tete is a small daff so it doesn't succumb to the wind as the large flowered ones do, has 1-3 flowers, flowers early spring  and is readily available. It grows well in pots and in the ground.

You could try February Gold. Although this starts flowering in February, it lasts for a long time and should still be around in March.

The Tenby Daffodil is the native Welsh one http://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/bulbs/daffodils/narcissus-obvallaris-/itemno.BU30000466/ so it ought to flower in time for St David's Day - the website says its flowering time is March/April - it will depend on the weather of course.

Thanks everyone - in the end I went for a belt and braces approach - three different varieties! I'll have to report back next year.
