I dislike January as people take all their lighting down. I think it really lifts the winter blues and literally makes light in darkness. My daughter just loves lights around trees (aged 3) and it is always great when she says 'oh I love those trees, its so pretty'.
Why not use solar lights, they dont use electricity and look gteat depending on how much sunshine there is of course. I have some all year round in my back garden, lovely.
Very tasteful Tootles. We have the blue ones that look like icicles on the front porch round to the kitchen window which then cycle through a display. There is one house near us that always has a snowman display in their front window that looks nice. We take the boys for a drive around the roads nearer christmas as they like to see all the lights in the gardens.
With and without flash. Won't do the Christmas tree for a couple of weeks though.
My OH bought a blossom tree yesterday (not a real one!) that lights up to put outside, LED lights, only 10W. He's put it on a timer for the evenings. Looks really pretty.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I have solar lights and lamps too in the back garden. Have been looking for some for the front to put on the climber near the door.
