A couple of plant idents from Bristol Botanical Garden. The first one is a familiar plant to me but embarrassingly I am not sure what it is! Some sort of Viburnum? The second one, I have no idea!
I hope BBG get their plant labelling sorted out next year!

Top one looks a bit like my Acer - only yours is healthier.
Top one is viburnum bodnantense
Bottom one is lobelia laxiflora
Cheers! I forgot to mention, the Viburnum pic was back in august... does x bodnantense colour up so early?
That photo doesn't look anything like my V. bodnantense at any time of year - wish it did!
I've got the 'dawn' variety, it sometimes goes red early if it gets stressed from drought.
on zooming in, it could be viburnum farreri?
Too many viburnums!
Thanks chaps. Yep, there are way too many viburnums... it would be possible to have an 'all-viburnum' planting scheme I reckon...
