What could I choose?
my daughter says she would like to buy me a gardening book for Christmas - and I would love one about perennials. I've got several that I've had for years, but new plants are being introduced all the time and I'd love a really up-to-date one on perennials. Any good ideas would be much appreciated.

Could you go to a book shop and have a browse first? Then you could note down titles of books you like the look of.
if you're close to an RHS garden, they'll have a huge selection of gardening books from which to choose.
Many thanks for the recommendation, willDB. I think some people might have thought I was too lazy to go to a bookshop - but I was really just wondering if someone could recommend something from personal experience. Thanks again.
Didn't think you were lazy, just thought you didn't know where to start. Wanted to push up your post for another to answer as I can't. I live in France so don't visit bookshops in England very often. My OH gave me the "RHS Encyclopaedia of Perennials" which I love, but it was printed in 2006.
You might like to consider Adrian Bloom's book on grasses and perennials

I've not read this book, but I have the utmost respect for Adrian Bloom as a gardener and garden designer, he is an inspirational speaker and his garden at Foggy Bottom is a revelation.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Any of the encyclopaedias by the RHS I would recommend, a bit pricey, but I still get a lot of use out of mine.
This one looks interesting. In fact, I just bought it!

Apart than that, anything with the Christopher Lloyd name attached to it comes recommended, as you'll get some colourful personal insight into how these plants grow!
^I agree with that, even though a few years old now, Great Dixter books from Mr Lloyd would still be a joy to read I think...
