Christmas quiz questions

Hello everyone,

My gardening club has asked me to come up with some quirky garden related questions for their Christmas quiz... I can think of a couple off hand...

What do you call the part of the sundial that casts a shadow to indicate the time...?

Which type of soil encourages the  blue in Hydrangeas...?

Any other suggestions? Oh and have to be questions with very definitive answers to enable score keeping...nothing about planting levels or time of year!

I can PM you the answers, which of course you would not need.

  • Wow, that's a proper puzzle, I will have to work that one out later, thanks.

I should have said, the quiz will be carried out like a pub quiz so in groups and quite quick fire, verbal questions, but thanks for the reply!

  • Haha, no please don't send me the answers, I look forward to figuring that out!

  • If you had some picture questions it might be easier to make questions. How about names of flower parts, outline shapes of trees. Also common name /Latin name questions. Maybe a list of flowers and ask how many of them are edible.

Just a few suggestions. I've made up quizzes in the past, but never one based on flowers.

    Good luck!

  • Oh Gosh! I can't compete with Berghill. Well done, he's got me thinking!

What a great quiz!  Would be ideal for a 'join in' Christmas party - instead of charades.  I still have a couple of 'what on earth can that be?' but I shall prevail!

  • Oooh, I like it! My worry as a horticultural student is that I will ask them questions that they might find too technical (and possibly boring)! A basic flower structure isn't a bad idea though! Ohh yes a couple of latin names is good, but I need to think of humourous, or possibly Christmas related ones though.... thanks so much for your help!

  • Thank you Lydiaann, yes it is always popular with the gardening club, but means they need new questions each year! *I meant humorous, obviously.

How about something like 'what colour are the fruits of Callicarpa?' or 'how many  sections make up the leaves of Aesculus hippocastanum?'
