DAHLIA

THIS IS MY HUBBY AND MYSELF`S FIRST YEAR GROWING DAHLIAS.

THEY FLOWERED BEAUTIFULLY IN THEIR POTS.

WE KNOW THEY GO AWAY FOR THE WINTER AND NOW I AM STUCK AS WE KNOW NOTHING ELSE.

WHEN DO THEY GO AWAY. HOW DO WE KNOW IF THEY ARE READY TO GO AWAY. WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR STORING THEM.

  • when the first frost comes or before,I have just lifted mine ,shaken the earth off and put in tray to dry and labeled, and put in shed or greenhouse, when dry cover with dry peat and leave until spring when if you wish you can divide.image

I dug mine up today, washed the soil and put in greenhouse to dry.

I usually leave them in but as you can see they are rather large clumps now and need division. I plan on doing an Autumn division in about a week.

I will then either pot them up individually or store them and plant out in April.

Here are some i grew from a free seed packet. Unfortunately I didn't label them and it was a mixed Batch!

Very hard to spot the 'eyes' but will have a go at division in a few days.
