Virginia Creeper

Hi We have inherited a 'fallen' verginia creeper which has now taken over the whole of our back garden in France. There are layers apon layers of creeper and all the digging up of the creeper is having no effect. Can anyone suggest a complete killer for the whole garden or any advise on how to remove? It is quite a big area and we are at our wits end as to how to keep on top of this. We have the house as a holiday home so a complete eradication in the garden would not be a problem. We also have tried standard bought weed killers and also killers that are taken through the leaves. Nothimg works. We found the 'mother' plant and have broken that feed but again to no avail. Any suggestions would be great.

Roundup should be able to kill this off, not sure if it is available in France. You need a weed killer containing Glyphosate which will be taken up by the plants and kill the roots. It only works when the plant is actively growing and may take a couple of goes if the foliage is dense. I would try cutting down all the foliage and then in spring next year gong over the new growth of weed killer.
Thanks for your comments, we can get Roundup in France but think it will be cheaper to buy here. We have tried this on an area but maybe it will need the whole area to be done. I have to say we have been cutting the creeper and pulling up long roots but this is no good so will give this a try, many thanks
Hi, I hope someone can help. I visited my dad today and my Boxer dog 'Bridget' was messing around and bit/snapped the base of the Virginia Creeper that grows up his house......ooops!
Is there a way of repairing it as he likes it and will look awfull if dies!
Can you splint it...of thats the correct word?

Unlikely you can do much now-even if that would work -it is shutting down for the winter and shedding leaves so not actively growing-the only thing you can hope for is that it will shoot from the base next year.
