Have just got back home from a week working away and was pleased to see a large yellow rose bush in bud; I looked closer and saw the buds were covered in greenfly. Greenfly on November 17th, is that normal?

I was quite surprised to see a butterfly today and a Bergenia in full flower.

Chica, this could be really serious; do you think they will lay eggs? in what part of the country are you? I have nasturtiums that are nearly 1 foot high. I cleared the mess from this years nasturtiums many weeks ago, these new ones have all self seeded as they always do, but usually in the spring. The 1st proper frost they will turn to slime.
I keep getting lots of bees on my yellow front door. Its south facing and quite sheltered . I do hope they get back to their hives before it gate too cold. Still not had a proper frost but i guess thats because we live nrear the south coast.
Maud, I hope so too. Just went down to the end of the garden in search of something to put in a flower vase and found 6 delphiniums in full bloom in the sun.
Good hard sharp frost last night, which I hope will help to set the plants clocks to doing what they should. It is always nice to find the odd flower in a sheltered corner, a few campanulas for example, but flowers and red autumn leaves on the forsythia is rather odd! Our very odd years weather has upset many plants and some birds, who were chasing each other in a very unexpected way for the time of year a couple of weeks ago - but seem to have settled to eating and getting fat again for the winter.

I had amagnolia that often had a small flush of flowers in autumn.
Couple of bees whizzed past my head today and yes I to have greenfly on some rosebuds!!!!
Have a David Austin rose 'Molineux' wich is still producing lovely flowers.
Magnolias, like clematis and some other early summer flowering plants, do give a smaller flush of, often smaller, flowers later in the year. This has been such a strange year weatherwise that anything is possible! Just enjoy them, it will soon go to sleep, especially if we have another good frost tonight, and flower again in the spring.
Just shut the gate as dinner guest left; loads of 'diamonds' of frost on top of gate, I quite like the weather to be appropriate for the season.
