Grapes
Hi All,
Has anybody any solutions as to how to control/prevent mildew on my grapevine. This year the crop was ruined because mildew attacked bothe the leaves and the grapes themselves. I tried various available chemicals but nothing worked.
Many Thanks

Hi, I had the problem in my GH real bad this year I believe it was due to the lack of sunshine and warmth. Inadequate ventilation can be a probable cause. Hope 2013 is better!

Which mildew did you have? Powdery or Downy?
I'm pretty sure it's powdery mildew, although it's difficult to be absolutely sure. Looking at images on Google they both look like the same as that which my grapes vine suffered from.
As you say, lack of warmth could be a factor as well as the weather being wet in the spring. I'm not sure what chemical control I can use, if any. Any ideas?
The milk dilution works for grapes, roses, raspberries and dahlias. No one certain why it inhibits the mildew growth but beware the milk promotes a different mould if the concentration is above 30% dilution. It may be a protein or it may be the bacteria in the milk that works.HTH
Many thanks for the tip. One thing, would it be helpful to spray before there is any sign of Mildew or at the 1st signs?
Feeding with seaweed extract helps the grape resist the mildew just as much as the milk does. My two vines take off for the next county when they get their chicken pellet feed in early March but when they get their seaweed solution in middle of May the leaves lush up.
PS Use the young leaves blanched and steamed then marinaded in lemon and vinegar to wrap meat and rice - delicious!
Many thanks for the advice. Much appreciated!!
