Clematis & Jasmine

TantyTanty Posts: 59

Hi

Hope someone can help...

I have a couple of summer flowering clematis and jasmine in troughs and would like to cut them down now to install some lights in the trellises they grow on to.  Is this a terrible idea?  I can mulch them, protect them with fleece and keep them happy over the winter but I'd really like to know if cutting them right back will be disastrous!

Thank you image

Bad time of year to do it I'm afraid.

I dont know if Jasmine would respond to a harsh cut back.

Clematis I would cut back in Early Spring. April ish

You don't say what type of jasmine it is. As for the clematis if it's sheltered you can prune now especially if it's died right back to brown stems, and yes then mulch it heavily to protect it overwinter. Once you tell us which type of jasmine it is, then the advice will follow.
