I have had two clumps of bamboo planted 3 years ago, in the garden, they say its a non evasive type, its only just started to grow, I really wanted that swaying type waving in the breeze, will mine ever grow 6/8ft tall.  Does it take a long while usually to get established?

Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

I'm from the opposing camp to Verdun as I have 3 different bamboos and none of them have been invasive.  They've been in the garden many years without a problem.

That said, without knowing the variety I would err on the side of caution and put some sort of containment around it if you plant it in the garden.  A rubber, rather than plastic, dustbin with the bottom cut out would do the job.
