You need flowers to get fruit and as there is no sign of flowers--do not feed make it suffer and hopefully at some point..............it looks a bit leggy as well -is it getting enough light?

  • Hi Sotongeoff it is sat by the window in the kitchen all day and night and i only water it about twice a week.

can you give me any ideas of trying to get them to flower and to stop it from being a bit leggy.

any help would do as this is the first year i have grown chilli's

There is not much you can do to get it to flower other than wait-only water if it shows signs of wilting-not on a regular basis-if that is 2 weeks then so be it-this will trigger a mechanism in the plant that makes it think it is on the way out so will flower in order to reproduce that is when you will get fruit.

    Patience is a virtue.

As regards light again as much as you can-I am guessing you don't have a greenhouse?

The legginess is because it is indoors where light levels are lower and it is a touch warmer-you should get something but it is hard to predict when.

  • i do have a greenhouse but i have been blited by slugs and snails and they have eaten most of my plants that is why i brought them indoors, should i put them back in the greenhouse.

I would-but put on the staging rather than lower down-slug pellets will take care of the nasties.

  • thank you

Great advice from Geoff, as always. Apart from bright light, they will need as much warmth as they can get, too. Peppers have exactly the same requirements as toms.
