Hi
I planted two box hedge balls recently and have noticed 3 of these caterpillars
is this the asian caterpillar that eats box hedges?
Thanks
Ian

I think it might be a Buff Tip moth, according to my insect book. I don't think it's a box tree caterpillar but wait for confirmation from the clever folk on here
So many caterpillars look very similar. It does look a bit like a Buff Tip, but it also looks similar to pics of the Asian Box caterpillar - from info on the RHS site it seems that the Asian Box caterpillars feed beneath a web - are yours wandering freely over your shrubs or have they spun a web? https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=760
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
It suddenly seems to be all over the press about box caterpillar.
By coincidence I wrote a post about its control yesterday

The box Caterpillar was on the BBC news yesterday, and here in The Netherlands we've also got problems with them.
