Aralia Spinosa

Hi - we planted a bare root Aralia Spinosa in a shady part of the garden last year. It grew and produced new leaves in late spring this year. However, all leaves and branches have now turned and dropped. I know that Aralia does this in winter - but in August?

Anyone have any tips or suggestions?
