Winter pansies

I have these in troughs on the patio, the slugs have completely destroyed them.

Is it any use replacing with new pansies? I have these in this position every year.

first time this has happened.

I have put mine in a hanging basket and they are doing really well.  Otherwise slug pellets may be the only answer.
