To spray or not to spray?

Because it has been so wet, my roses have not been sprayed this season. Black spot is rife. Is it worth spraying now??

Any advice much appreciated.

It would interesting to read the advise.

Can black spot spread onto neighbouring plants, I've a climbing rose with black spot but a nearby honeysuckle and clematis have also developed black spots on their leavesimage

  • Hi Zoomer!

I imagine blackspot DOES spread, because the advice is always to pick up and destroy infected leaves, otherwise the soil is contaminated. Also, these leaves can't be composted - hence the "destroy!!"

It's worth spraying if you can to try and control it a little and curtail the spread. Black spots on honeysuckle are unlikely to be the same disease as on roses, as far as I know - the reason for picking up leaves is to try and stop roses being re-infected next year.
