Apart from a large birdbath in the middle of the garden we have a small one just outside the patio window and our resident robin has decided that this is his own personal bath.  He was not impressed with a young starling who joined him today. They are great fun to watch.

Fairygirl!! What a gorgeous pond....that must have been such a wrench for you to leave it behind image I really do feel for you. But you've got another now right?

Lyn - I thought all Damselflies/Dragonflies laid their eggs on plant stems but on researching the Common Darter dragonfly I had near my pond, the female of this species scatters her eggs over the water surface from a low level image

Fishy - you're getting right into this pond malarkey! image

The pond - well, I had my reasons for leaving...but I'm making a tiny little one here which is almost done, and will be lovely for next year I hope image

Daughter said she'll get me a water lily for my birthday from her and her sister.  It'll have to be a teeny weeny one and they're more expensive of course!  image

Thank you for info on dragonfly laying eggs. My dad says she swoops down to the water and lays the eggs under water,I couldnt see that to be true but he had a  pond in his previous house and had seen them.

You never know now,  after we had the conversation about the septic tank, is my dad loosing the plot a bit? image

Jackie how lovely, what a nice  suprise for you image

I can hear the Robin in my garden but he is eluding me in the branches of shubs and trees. Takes the mealworms from the bird table though. I expect he will follow me around the garden when I start digging over the borders. image

I've got another one now Fishy ..imageimage

Planting to follow, along with some 'finishing' gravel and a bit of adding and re-arranging of the stones and rocks next to the old tree stump on the right hand side. A fair bit of faffing, in other words! image

That's going to be brilliant Fairy.  I really admire your handiwork.  The screen is gorgeous and it's in my colourimage

    Thank you Lesley image

The day after I mortared the stones along the front edge, a magpie walked right along them as if he'd been watching me and was 'road testing' them. None fell in, so - job done!  image

Fairygirl!! You're quite an artist aren't you image What a lovely design,I particularly like the sectioning off of the part on the right. You'll have some tenants in no time and it sounds like the magpie has passed your handiwork. Was he carrying a clipboard? You'll be wanting some plants next then. I think its brilliant image

Yes I'm really into the pond scene now. In fact I don't think it ever left me having grown up with a pond, more like being reintroduced to a long lost friend. Now I can't work out why I didn't dig one out before image

My parents had a concrete pond but nearby tree roots cracked it. So I smashed the concrete out, extended the pond and laid a liner in. That was back in 1986. Showing my age now...

These are for you Fishy...planted up the little bit on the right yesterday afternoon. The stump from a dead tree  was impossible to get out, so I made it part of the plan instead. I have lots of little ferns growing round the garden so I tucked one in and will see if there's room for any others as I go along. Some nice gravel to go on top now, which I'll get today if I can.

Don't think Mr Magpie had a clipboard, but a fat woodpigeon was in having a drink this morning so it's sturdy enough image

I'll get the marginal plants soon and I have some crocus which I can put in the front right hand corner. Apologies for the string round the irises at the back - it made life easier getting them in! I promise I'll remove it today... image

'Gordon' the hedgehog has been carefully placed by oldest daughter....image

I'm getting just as excited by it as you are! image
