Dahlias

Hi I have a problem I have a load of dahlias that I've lifted cleaned dried out. How do I either stop them rotting getting to dry or just basically dying on me! The other problem is there in the house in the spare bedroom spaced out on the bed laying newspaper any suggestions as these are the tree dahlias and they're too nice to loose thanks

With storing dahlias the golden rule is cool, dry and frost free-as long as the bedroom is not heated they will be fine-you do not want them sprouting yet- which they will do if it gets too warm

Wrapping in newspaper-good idea-that is why I do in a cool greenhouse and have done for years

  • I remember as a child helping a neighbour lift and store her dahlias - she instructed me to place them upside down in cardboard boxes lined with newspapers - she said that way the sap in the steps would drain out and the tubers would be less likely to rot.

  • Any idea why my orange & pink spiky dahlias have turned into bright yellow classic dahlias at the end of the season? Will they return to their original colour next year or will they remain yellow?

Dahlias some times throw up  a sport-are you 100% positive it is from the same plant?

To change colour and type completely is unusual to say the least.
