hi, can anyone tell me if buddjlea bushes have deep roots, thanks

    I think buddleias have a fairly shallow fibrous root system.

    thanks again, i need to dig one out, its in the wrong place, i have put buddjlea buzz around the garden for the butterflies, i would like to put a berry bush in its place, (part shade) any suggestions, thanks

    never heard of them, will look them up, thanks verdun, will the birds like them?

    Birds like hawthorn and cotoneaster, both of which will grow in part shade.

    hi buzzy-lizzie, i think hawthorne would be a great idea, i should have thought of it myself, right by my house we had an overgrown site that used to be a convent it was full of hawthorn and many other bushes and trees, it was full of birds which would feed in my garden, they have recently ripped it all out to build 2 blocks of flats, so we have lost a lot of the birds, so planting things like hawthorn will hopefully encourage them back, so thanks for your idea

    Ihave a Hawthorn as a tree and it looks great in winter and great in spring.My neighbour has a hedge of hawthorn and it looks stunning when its clipped well and the seasons show the berries or the flowers.image
