Laburnam trouble

Hi, bought a Laburnam tree in April and it was doing very until recently when something decided to eat all the leaves. Honestly they are stripped nearly bare!!! I have found a few snails on the trunk but can't see how they could stay on the leaves to eat them. Any ideas what can be the cause?
