Slugs and snails eat by "rasping" off the surface of plants (they don't have teeth!!) and would certainly be able to cut through a carrier bag. For some reason they seem to love foam plastic pipe lagging and I have seen serious damage caused by slugs/snails on this in damp locations. Why? I can't imagine - it must have zero food value!
I picked up a black plastic council sack that had blown into the corner of my garden, underneath I found attached to the sack 37 snails and slugs. I put it back in the same place and the next day I found another 12, I now do this daily and find this is the best way of catching them. Give it a try it might work for you.
If you put sacks down every 3ft you will catch just as many on each one, there seems to be millions this year, the warm winter and wet spring didn't kill any eggs or young ones off.

Not a daft question but no! butterfly or moth eggs are usually laid on the plant that will feed the caterpillars. Especially nettles, which everybody is so keen to eradicate!
But i dont want to collect beery gatherings in a glass or plastic bottle ! Errrrgh. Just trying to avoid sinister slug pellets. Am a new humble, rather stupid but plant-loving gardener .

Thousands of eggs everywhere, each time you empty a pot they are in the bottom, a bumper year next year I reckon.
This was a suggestion given me by a 8 year old boy .
1 .Put them into a plastic milk bottle
2 .,then screw the lid on
3 .and dump in the bin.

So once you have counted `em nodisab , do you give `em the old size 9 crunch ?

The eggs have been mentioned ,my question is: could the eggs be anything else such as butterfly eggs turning into butterfly or moths ?
